Ministry Among Buddhists Newsletter, October 21

Email from Mike Kier dated October 21:

Dear Prayer Senders,

Please uplift Bangkok in united prayer this Sabbath.

Unless God intervenes, the city seems destined to experience a slow-motion disaster.

The next 3 to 10 days appear to be the most critical time for the Thai capital.

“More than 8 BILLION cubic meters of floodwaters are flowing from Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani towards Bangkok. The Chao Phraya River discharges less than 200 million cubic meters per day while attempts to divert flood water east and west of the city can drain only about 86 cubic meters of water per day.”

The problem is immense and serious. Compounding the trouble is the fact that the dams upstream are filled beyond capacity and have no choice but to continually release high rates of water. The Pasak Dam upriver from where we live is now at a dangerously high level, 138% of capacity.

October 28-31 will be the highest tides of the month, further frustrating drainage into the Gulf of Thailand.

Please encourage continued intercession for the kingdom of Thailand.
Not only over the next several days, but until the Thai people have a chance to know the love of Jesus.
In answer to earnest united prayer, may the Lord reveal Himself in all His mercy and saving power.

From our heart for mission completion God’s way – together in Christ,

Mike & Marilee
