Sister Rani’s Legacy

A JFA Bible Worker Story

Sister Rani was a JFA Bible Worker in India for many years. She dedicated her life to serving Jesus and doing her part to “make disciples of all nations." Sadly, Sister Rani passed away last year, but her legacy continues in the lives of the people she served and taught.

Sister Vimala is one of those people.

Sister Vimala grew up in a well-to-do Hindu family. Her father, a Hindu priest, spent much time in their local temple performing religious ceremonies and rituals. However, when Sister Vimala was in high school, her family suddenly began to lose all their wealth.

Sister Vimala's father started to spend his time asking for money from people, trying to recoup his losses, but nothing worked. Soon, he was drowning in debt. Ashamed and afraid, her father fled the village.

For a long time, no one knew where he was, but eventually, Sister Vimala and her family found him in another city and joined him there. Although she wouldn’t understand for several years, this new city was exactly where she needed to be.

Around the time of her family’s troubles, Sister Vimala met a young Roman Catholic man; they fell in love and were later married. Growing up as the daughter of a Hindu priest, Sister Vimala had never learned anything about Jesus, but through her relationship with her husband, she began going to church.

Still she didn’t know much about God. Although she and her husband knew Jesus was God, their weekly visits to church were the only real connection she had with Jesus.

Later, Sister Vimala started to attend her sister-in-law's church, which was of another denomination. She attended the church for two years, but she found herself dissatisfied with its loud noise and atmosphere. She wanted to know God, she wanted to find truth, but was this it? At home, she found that the love of her husband was waning, and she sank deeper into discouragement.

During this difficult time in her life, Sister Vimala met Sister Rani. Sister Rani studied the Bible with her. She told her about the Sabbath and many things she never knew before. Sister Vimala was so happy to learn more about God and His Word. She knew she had finally found what she was looking for, and she decided to join the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Sister Rani continued to minister to Sister Vimala, even after she was baptized. Sister Rani not only taught her about the Bible, but she taught her how to serve as well. She even took Sister Vimala with her to visit others and minister to them.

Sister Vimala started to tell others about Jesus, including her father and mother, who eventually joined the SDA church as well.

After Sister Rani’s death, Sister Vimala was very sad, but she did not let her grief stop her from serving God. When she was given the opportunity earlier this year to become a JFA Bible Worker herself, she eagerly accepted.

“God has chosen me,” Sister Vimala said. “I came to [this city]; I came to know about JFA, and now I am sitting in front of you as a JFA Worker, I am really happy about it. God has chosen me.”
