The Prayer of Faith

A Jesus For Asia Bible Worker Story

One of our Bible Workers recently shared the following story with us.

My name is Vasudev, and I come from a Hindu family. I am married with two children, a son and a daughter. When my daughter, Asmita, was born, we were so happy. Our home was peaceful; our crops were growing well. We felt that Lakhsmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and beauty, had been born into our house, incarnated in our baby girl.

But then Asmita became very sick. She developed a high fever that wouldn’t go away. We took her to the hospital and gave her the medicine the doctors prescribed. She felt better for a little while but became sick again. We took her to many doctors and many temples, but no one could help her.

“God hears the prayer of faith,” they told us.

Eventually, after many tests, we discovered she had a severe problem with her throat and needed an operation. This operation would be long and dangerous, and expensive. We were heartbroken. We didn’t know what to do or where to go to help her.

When we told a friend about our troubles, they said we should talk to Shalini and Nandlal, who were Jesus for Asia Bible Workers.

“They pray in the name of Jesus Christ,” our friend told us. “And Christ heals all the sick.”

Immediately, we went to find Shalini and Nandlal and asked them to pray for Asmita.

Shalini and Nandlal told us more about Jesus. They prayed with us and assured us we could trust in God.

“God hears the prayer of faith,” they told us.

We knew we were utterly helpless, so we put our complete faith in God. We humbled ourselves before God, and He heard our prayers.

We learned about a hospital where Asmita could receive the operation she needed for free. The surgery lasted seven hours, but she was completely cured.

We thank God because we have learned the importance of prayer. We are constantly praying to Jesus and have started obeying His commandments. Glory be to God.

Editor’s note: Our Jesus for Asia Bible Workers work tirelessly to share Jesus with those who have not heard, and as we read in this story, their reputation often precedes them. Please continue to pray for our Bible Workers and people like Vasudev who desperately need the hope the Gospel provides.
