A story from our Bible Workers in the Philippines

A few weeks ago we shared this story about an unusual request for teachers to serve at an island school in the southern Philippines.

Jesus for Asia is helping fill the need by sponsoring Bible Workers to go teach and minister to the local village.

Here is a short experience the workers recently had that really impacted them.

In addition to teaching, these workers are spending time making friends with the local people. One morning they decided to go out walking with some friends who were local leaders in the village. The friends enjoyed their time together, talking and laughing.

When they got to a town a few kilometers away, they met the principal of the school there and were invited to come to their home for some hot drinks.

The morning’s fun ended when all of a sudden, people outside started shouting. The Bible Workers thought a fight had broken out, so they stayed inside. Then they heard someone yelling, “First aid, first aid!” And they knew they had to go help.

They ran outside and found a man lying on the ground, covered in blood. He had fallen from a tree after accidentally brushing against a live wire, they learned from the crowd.

One of the Bible Workers, a licensed paramedic, rushed to give the man chest compressions. The other workers helped to wipe the blood from the man’s face. People were crying and shouting and praying. At last the man regained consciousness. He was scared and confused, and the Bible Workers comforted him and told him about Jesus. They made space in the crowd for his family to come and see him. A doctor came and the townspeople made arrangements to take him by boat to another island where an ambulance would take him to the hospital.

Sadly the man passed away during the boat ride, but despite the circumstances, the Bible Workers were grateful God had brought them to that place. Their morning had been disrupted, but God had used them to give the man an opportunity to say goodbye to his family and surrender his life to God. They would gladly have their fun interrupted again to ease someone’s pain and to share God’s love with them.

We are so blessed to see how God is working in the lives of these Bible Workers, and we invite you to join us in praying for them as they continue to serve. If you would like to support these and other Bible Workers in the Philippines, please click the button below.
