Construction Progress Brings Hope in Manipur

An Update from the Manipur School Project

The first two classrooms for the Manipur School in India are nearly complete! The construction workers have been busy plastering the walls and laying tile. We have been praying for this project for a long time, so we are thankful to see this progress, even though many more classrooms still need to be built.

And while we are thankful, the church elders who started the school, the staff, and the students are even more thankful.

A group of young men from three area churches started this school 50 years ago so their children and others in their valley could receive a Christ-centered education. It is the only Seventh-day Adventist school in an area with 22 villages. Despite many hardships, the men who started the school have continued to put their heart and soul into keeping it going.

The new classrooms will have big doors and windows.

The builders carefully laid the tiles in the classrooms.

The tiling is complete!

As the men grew older and many of them passed away, those who remained started to worry. What would happen to the school after they were gone? They prayed for God to provide for the school so it could continue (and grow!). So for them, each brick added to this building is an answer to their prayers.

The construction progress is bringing hope to the students and teachers as well. While they are happy to be at the Manipur School, they have many challenges to face every day. Classes are conducted in classrooms with poor ventilation; there are not enough benches, and there are not enough bathrooms.

The new classroom building will help alleviate these challenges. The new building will also enable many new students to attend the school and receive a Christ-centered education.

We invite you to pray for this building project: for the builders, for God's provision, and for good prices on materials.

We also have another prayer request.

In addition to the challenges listed above, we discovered during our visit to Manipur that the students and teachers are facing other daily challenges that the new building will not alleviate. For example, they do not always have enough food or a healthy variety of fruits and vegetables to accompany their meals; they do not have easy access to clean water; and when the parents can’t pay their children’s school fees, the teachers do not always get paid.

This school is impacting the lives of so many young people, and we want to see it thriving in all areas. Please join us in praying for God to provide for these needs. Please also pray for the spiritual growth of everyone connected with this school.
