Mission Project - Rosa Fernandez

Rosa will be helping Tim and Wendy Maddocks at the Adventist International School Siem Reap in Cambodia.

I found myself burnt out and stuck in the rat race. In August 2019, I prayed a specific prayer to God about His direction for my life. “Please let me be the only one in my department to be laid off,” was my prayer. Fast forward to March 2020, while everyone was mesmerized by a worldwide pandemic, the Lord captured my heart and prepared me to begin an exodus out of NYC. I was let go from my job and impressed to be in/of service to others for the Lord. “He must increase, and I must decrease” (John 3:30).

Only five years prior to that specific prayer, I had in earnest returned to my first love. Little did I know then God would be calling me out of the city of New York into the country, trading my designer heels & jeans for boots and modest dress. Surrendering to God is a journey that I am learning to walk daily. It’s a slow process when one has cultivated a strong sense of “self-sufficiency.” Old habits must be left to die, and we must be willing to lose what we have to find what we need in Jesus. I’m claiming Matthew 16:25: “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

As I start this next chapter with SALT Ministries, ministering to those in Cambodia, I’m excited about the direction the Lord is leading me and the greater purpose I’ll find in doing His work with those who don’t know Christ yet. I know that my life and everything good in me has been cultivated by God for this very thing, and I praise Him for that. His ways are better than mine. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).

I thank all of you who have taken your time to pray about and encourage this journey. Please keep all those who have not yet heard the good news, as well as those who bring it to them, in your prayers.
