Prayer Walk Info

Prayer Walking, in simplest terms, is walking and praying for God to work in the places and people you pass along the way.

WHY WALK AND PRAY?

Many around the world do not know the Living God. We may not know the best way to reach them, but God does. Jesus said, “God is spirit” (John 4:24). So, we should use spiritual tools to reach our spiritual objective of introducing people to Christ. Prayer is a major spiritual tool!

HOW TO PRAYER WALK

RECOMMENDED STEPS:

  1. Discover: your Identity in Christ.

  2. Decide: where, with whom, and how long you will walk.

  3. Enter: into His presence. Ask God’s blessing before embarking.

  4. Equip: Find promises you can claim in prayer while you walk.

  5. Pray! “If we work, we work. If we pray, God works.” Hudson Taylor

DISCOVER: YOUR IDENTITY

HOW DOES GOD SEE YOU?

The elder brother of the prodigal son lived like a slave, hoping for a future payday. He didn’t realize his father saw him as a beloved son. “You never gave me anything,” the brother said. But the Father told him, “All I have is yours!” (Luke 15:25-31). Often, we identify ourselves by our achievements or our failures instead of how God sees us.

OUR AUTHORITY IN CHRIST

God The Father honored Jesus above all others by sitting Him at His right hand. In Ephesians 2:6, Paul says that in Christ, we are seated in heavenly places with Him. Jesus is above all principalities and powers, and we are His body.

DECIDE: WHO? WHERE? HOW LONG?

Ask yourself, where do you want to see God working? You can prayer walk:

  • In your neighborhood

  • At the grocery store

  • In Paris on vacation

  • In an unreached city.

  • And beyond!

You can go alone, with a friend or family member, or with a group. At the end, reserve some time to debrief and share testimonies.

ENTER: INTO HIS PRESENCE

Spending time with God in prayer is essential for preparing our hearts and keeping us from distractions. It helps take the focus off of self so we can view those we’re praying for through the lens of God’s love for them.

EQUIP: CLAIM PROMISES

God has given us His promises so we can claim them, make them ours, and stand upon them for the things we ask for. This is the science of Faith.

Some of our favorite promises for Prayer Walking:

  • Joshua 1:3 “...Wherever you place the sole of your foot that have I already given unto you…”

  • Matthew 18:19: “if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in Heaven.”

  • John 15: 7: “if you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you want and it shall be done.”

  • “Satan knows better than God’s people the power that they can have over him, when their strength is in Christ.” “At the sound of fervent prayer, Satan’s whole host trembles.” Testimonies Vol. 1, 341, 345

PRAY: IN FAITH!

On your prayer walk, you can pray silently or out loud, as you walk, or while stopped; you can even sing! The most important thing is to talk to God about what He places on your heart as you go.

“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend…Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him.” SC 93.2

As you pray, have faith that God will answer, even if you don’t personally see the results. God cannot lie (Titus 1:2); you can count on Him to be faithful to His Word.
