Discovering the Great Hope – A Bible Worker Story
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:51-58).
Philomina belonged to a Christian family, and she attended the Church of South India every Sunday. Earlier this year, her husband was infected with the coronavirus and was admitted to the hospital.
When her husband was in the hospital, Philomina met three JFA Bible Workers while walking down the road. These sisters talked to her, asking her questions about her life. They also asked her what church she attended. These women have nothing better to do than to ask me questions, Philomina thought.
A few days after she met the three women, Philomina received bad news from the hospital. Her husband had passed away. Philomina was very sad, but a few weeks later, her sorrow increased. Her son also contracted the virus and died.
Philomina saw the death of her husband and son as the consequences for her thoughts about the JFA Bible Workers. Philomina called the women she had met, explaining what had happened and asking for their forgiveness. The JFA Bible Workers lovingly told her that there was nothing wrong with what she had thought. They read 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 to her, and prayed with her, asking God to help her through the great agony of losing her husband and son. Even after Philomina hung up the phone, the three women continued to pray for her.
Now Philomina has peace. Through the Bible workers, she has discovered the great hope. She has the hope and faith that one day, on that glorious and wonderful day when Jesus returns, she will surely see her husband and son again.
