Rainy Season Woes
This is what Gayle Haberkam has to deal with during the rainy season in Thailand, which lasts from about the end of July until October or November. The worst period is in August and September. These photos were taken on the way to MeDeLeGwee village and poor Gayle actually fell off the motorbike into the mud! She was not injured, but had to spend the rest of the day in muddy clothes.Sometime before this, Gayle and BletJhaw were taking a group of people to the hospital when they met another group of people who had encountered a wild elephant! Wild elephants are extremely dangerous and a motorbike offers no protection against them. Suddenly, a big "boulder" beside the road moved! Not a boulder, but the elephant! They had to quickly turn their bikes around and flee because people get killed in situations like this often. It took several hours of waiting before they were able to safely make it to the hospital. Gayle sums up their recent experiences like this:
"Rainy season takes its toll on all of us out here in the jungle. Presently I have a kidney infection, a bad cold, and the “Jungle rot” in my scalp. We have met a hooded cobra face-to-face, I have tripped right over 2 dreadful snakes and met a wild elephant face-to-face!"
There is some good news! They have hired BletJhaw's brother-in-law, Thara Jerry, to be the cook at the mission clinic, which frees Gayle from that responsibility and improves the regularity of their mealtimes. He is the first person who has ever wanted to work permanently with them at BYT. We are very thankful to have him on the team!
Support Gayle as she brings healing and the love of Jesus to over 50 villages in Thailand!
"You Will Stand Before Kings"
We cannot go into detail, but we are calling on everyone to pray for GoBeDo Missions and the fulfillment of Matthew 10:16-20, especially today:"16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you."
Surrender Brings Progress
At FaithCamp 2017, Brian Atwell realized that he had been doing all this work on the Center of Influence trying to get it going and he had not yet surrendered it to God. He did and since then more has been accomplished in the last month than in the last three to four months! Praise God! Here are some pictures of the renovations:Please pray that God will provide for the following items:
That we can find the right workers with a heart to serve the Lord.
That we can remember where OUR actions brought us and that the only reason we are where we are today is because of His undeserved, unmerited grace that lifted us from there.
That I can finish the first floor in the next month as the government will require pictures of a usable space before granting extension status on our visas.
For donors to sponsor the fitness center/climbing wall construction
(Roughly $40,000 needed to complete)
For the funds to finish the renovations and furnish the center
(Roughly $30,000 needed to complete)
Thank you for being a part of the Jesus for Asia family!
